By 2030, advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), evolving reimbursement practices, changes in cybersecurity and privacy regulation will redefine what it means to be a health information professional. This 60-minute session brings together a team of health-information academics and workforce researchers who have spent the past five years collaborating on studies that map the evolving skill sets, role definitions and educational needs of the field. Drawing on peer-reviewed findings and in-progress mixed-methods projects, the panel will translate evidence into practice: How are automation and generative AI reshaping medical coding, analytics and governance competencies? Will micro-credential or apprenticeship models measurably close the gap? What curricular shifts yield job-ready graduates, without sacrificing foundational health information principles? This rapid-fire QA format will cover content that takes research beyond academia and behind the frontlines of an evolving profession, equipping attendees with actionable tactics to future-proof academic programs, hiring practices and the wider health-information profession.
