There are roughly 5.3 million Transgender and Non-Binary people in the US. 48% of them report having had a bad experience with healthcare. The EMR often does not track the unique and needed information about gender-non-conforming patients. Forward-thinking institutions track sex assigned at birth, Legal Sex, Identified Sex/Gender Identity, and Sexual Orientation. They know a Transgender Woman may have a prostate gland or testicles. A Transgender Man may have mammary glands, ovaries, a uterus, and a cervix. Normal lab values may differ from traditional male/female ranges. This poster Illustrates how simple customizations made to the EMR will aid providers in navigating these differences in caring for Transgender or Non-binary patients.
