The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS’) Office of Healthcare Experience & Interoperability (OHEI) will provide an overview of the CMS Interoperability Roadmap, which outlines an approach to using standards to improve the healthcare experience. One of OHEI’s objectives is to enhance the flow of useable, meaningful, and actionable information through interoperability, which is crucial for the accomplishment of achieving the HHS and CMS goals of a more efficient and better connected healthcare system. In this session, CMS will describe the agency’s plans for advancing policies to drive interoperable data sharing and improve the care experience for providers, payers, patients, and caregivers.  This session will also describe progress on modernizing the HIPAA administrative transaction standards adoption process, how these administrative transactions are integrated into the roadmap, and the role CMS plays in supporting collaborative standards development.  This session will highlight ways CMS collaborates with industry stakeholders to conduct coordinated testing, outreach and education to increase public awareness and participation in development, enhancement and implementation of interoperable data exchange standards.
