Navigating the Path for New Informaticists: Insights from our Residency
Information
The demand for nursing informaticists is on the rise as healthcare increasingly relies on data and technology to revolutionize patient care and support healthcare professionals. In response to this growing need, Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC) has introduced an innovative 24-week Nursing Informatics Residency Program tailored for bedside nurses. Grounded in the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice, along with Kaiser Permanente's mission, vision and nursing values, this program provides a structured pathway for nurses to develop a solid foundation in informatics. Spanning three distinct phases—clinical immersion, mentorship, and evaluation—the program guides participants through the intricacies of designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating data and information systems. Emphasizing the integration of cutting-edge technologies, the program empowers nurses to leverage these tools effectively to support, enhance, and manage patient care, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes and experiences for both patients and clinicians.
