(EHL Poster) Towards Semantic Interoperability In Coding Patient Questionnaires Using SNOMED CT
Information
Due to the thousands of clinical concepts that can be coded using Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT), variability in coding clinical concepts amongst coders may occur. Variability in coding presents a barrier to accurate data capture and reuse, harming future efforts towards semantic interoperability. This project mapped a patient engagement questionnaire from Moffitt Cancer Center to SNOMED CT, while creating best practices when coding clinical terms that may address the challenge of variability in coding. Improvements for practice, such as limiting the number of clinical concepts in a single question, avoiding post-coordination, and more, may improve the ability to map concepts to SNOMED CT.
