Information

This session is part of the Public Health Data Modernization Preconference Forum and additional registration is required.

Moderated by Lilly Kan, Aasa Dahlberg Schmit and Marcey Propp from HLN Consulting will explore the complexities of modernizing public health information systems ranging from the conundrum of data governance, aging technology and resource constraints.

This interactive and dynamic session will engage attendees in the exploration of specific opportunities and challenges, as well as policy and technical hurdles facing state, territorial, local and tribal (STLTs) health departments today. Potential synergies and dependencies in modernizing public health information systems architecture and enhancing data models for seamless electronic exchange will also be discussed.

This forum will enable public health professionals and partners to collaborate and share their experiences, lessons learned and pitfalls to avoid as we navigate the next steps in modernizing public health information systems.

Format
Panel Discussion
Learning Objective #1
Analyze Core Challenges in Public Health Infrastructure Participants will be able to identify and analyze the primary hurdles currently facing State, Territorial, Local, and Tribal (STLT) health departments, specifically focusing on the complexities of data governance, the limitations of aging platforms, and the impact of resource constraints on modernization efforts.
Learning Objective #2
Evaluate Technical and Policy Strategies for Modernizing Public Health Information Systems Attendees will be able to evaluate the synergies and dependencies involved in modernizing public health information systems and platforms. This includes understanding how enhanced data models facilitate seamless electronic exchange and the policy shifts required to support these technical upgrades.
Learning Objective #3
Synthesize Lessons Learned to Avoid Common Modernization Pitfalls By engaging in collaborative discussion, participants will be able to synthesize real-world experiences and lessons learned from their peers. This will enable them to develop a prospective “roadmap" of best practices to implement and common pitfalls to avoid when navigating the next steps in modernizing public health information systems
