Journey to AI-Enabled Smart Hospital: Outcomes and Lessons from Taiwan
Information
Chi Mei Medical Center, the largest integrated healthcare system in the Yunlin–Chiayi–Tainan region serving over 2 million patients, demonstrates how AI-driven transformation delivers measurable results. Under Superintendent Dr. Lin's leadership, Chi Mei has scaled from early EMR adoption to enterprise analytics and workflow-native AI tools that reduce clinical burden and standardize decisions. Chi Mei deployed EMR-driven predictive systems across multiple departments and generative-AI copilots for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and dietitians. Tens of thousands of monthly uses by thousands of staff show early signals of reduced burnout and improved efficiency in documentation and medication safety. External validation includes ISO 7101 certification, IHF Awards 2025 Gold for Healthcare Workers' Wellbeing and Silver for Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, and Edison Awards 2025 bronze for the A+ Clinical Intelligent Navigator in "AI Driven Patient Care Enhancements." Attendees will learn practical strategies for AI adoption, infrastructure development, change management, and measuring impact, including both achievements and obstacles. Chi Mei launched its HIMSS AI-Enabled Smart Hospital advisory initiative in February 2026.
