Digital Public Health: Digital Maturity Lessons from Michigan

Digitally enabled public health has gained attention post-pandemic, yet limited advances in digital maturity persist, particularly in data system integration required for effective surveillance, population health prediction, and community health disparity response. This session presents research examining digital health maturity in Michigan public health systems through comprehensive analysis using the HIMSS Digital Health Indicator (DHI). Findings reveal what makes each organization unique and illuminate the opportunities and barriers shaping digital transformation across the state, demonstrating why public health systems must first assess current state to design strategic roadmaps delivering optimal ROI. Through in-depth case analysis, the session examines how Michigan approached digital transformation, revealing relationships between digital maturity and organizational performance with evidence-based insights for leaders considering transformation initiatives.
