Information

The Ambient Nursing Documentation initiative is a nurse-designed innovation that leverages conversational-based artificial intelligence (AI) to support inpatient documentation. Built for MedSurg and Progressive Care Unit settings, the tool passively captures nurse-patient conversations and files relevant data into discrete fields in the electronic health record. This solution reduces screen time and administrative workload, enabling nurses to focus on delivering patient-centered care. Codeveloped with frontline nurses and tested through a rigorous Institutional Review Board-validated process across seven inpatient units, this technology demonstrates the potential to transform the nursing experience and improve documentation quality. Preliminary findings show strong adoption among both nurses and patients. The tool's development is for nurses, by nurses, and is supported by robust change management strategies. This session will provide insight into the Ambient Nursing Documentation tool and how a nursing-led innovation strategy can effectively lay the groundwork for scalable transformation in clinical documentation.
