Artificial intelligence (AI) has an enormous potential to benefit healthcare and research. At the same time, technical shortcomings and nefarious behaviors threaten to limit the value that AI can bring. HL7 has developed and is enhancing the standards to mitigate the challenges and foster reliable and safe implementation of AI applications. The clinical community and our patients will be the beneficiaries. The application of AI has also impacted addressing health equity. HL7 is making efforts to address patient-centered, equitable development and deployment of standards. This presentation will discuss the application of standards for enhancing the reliability of AI, reducing clinical burden, enhancing fraud detection promoting patient engagement, and reducing health disparities.
